the White Tower

…In Medieval times the Greeks were not as peaceful as
they are today - but then again, 1500 years ago the
same could be said of just about any nation.

Greece’s second largest city - Thessalonika - built the
White Tower as its Fortress.

…Then, the Greeks lived in City - States called “Polis”
which, by the way, is where the word Metropolis comes
from - Meter (Mother) & Polis (City) meaning “Mother
City” or main city. Each Plis was a sovereign political
unit and each had a fortified centre where residents took
refuge from attack from neighbouring cities.

No longer subject to attack from rival cities, the White
Tower now houses a famous Greek museum.
